Helsing has unveiled the CA-1 Europa, a fully autonomous uncrewed combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) designed to establish Europe’s position in next-generation air defense. Developed at Helsing’s Grob Aircraft facility in Germany.

An Autonomous Multi-Role Jet

CA-1 Europa is a software-defined, mass-producible aircraft built for high subsonic speeds and multi-mission roles. Operating as a single asset or in a swarm, it integrates Helsing’s Centaur AI pilot, advanced situational awareness software, and a modular airframe that allows rapid integration of new payloads — including sensors, self-protection systems, and effectors.

With a length of 11 meters, 10-meter wingspan, and a maximum takeoff weight of 4 tons, the jet is optimized for autonomous missions in contested or denied environments.

Built for Intelligent Mass

CA-1 Europa reflects a new concept of intelligent mass — shifting combat power from hardware and pilot skill to software intelligence.
It delivers scalable capability at lower cost, enabling the deployment of multiple units where crewed fleets face limits in size and risk.

This approach supports a broader European move toward attritable systems — autonomous jets designed to be practical, affordable, and replaceable.

Industrial & Strategic Integration

Development and testing take place at Grob Aircraft, with European aerospace partners contributing to manufacturing and system integration.
The project is structured to ensure a resilient European supply chain, reinforcing strategic autonomy and minimizing dependence on non-European technologies.

By combining Grob’s proven aircraft manufacturing capability with Helsing’s AI autonomy, CA-1 Europa aims to become a cornerstone platform within Europe’s emerging network of AI-enabled defense systems.

Software Core and Command System

The aircraft runs on Helsing’s Centaur autonomy stack — the same AI flight system demonstrated earlier this year on Saab’s Gripen fighter.

CA-1 Europa includes an advanced operating system for flexible integration of mission applications and effectors. A dedicated Command-and-Control system supports operators in planning, supervising, and adapting missions across autonomous assets — allowing coordinated swarm operations or independent sorties.

Timeline & Strategic Vision

The design study phase has been completed. Production and flight testing are underway, with operational readiness expected within four years.

“Uncrewed fighter jets will become a key capability for establishing air dominance and keeping us safe,” said Torsten Reil, Helsing Co-CEO.
“Europe cannot afford to fall behind or become dependent on third parties. With CA-1 Europa, we will make sure this does not happen.”
