Swiss voters reject stricter neutrality rules

Swiss voters rejected a proposal to impose a stricter interpretation of the country's long-standing neutrality, with 70.15% voting against. The initiative would have restricted cooperation with military alliances such as NATO and largely prohibited sanctions against states at war. Switzerland remains neutral; the vote concerned how that neutrality should be applied. Its neutrality was internationally recognised in 1815.
