UK borrowing overshoots forecasts in August

UK public sector borrowing reached £18.3bn in August, £3.5bn above official forecasts and almost a fifth up on a year earlier, according to the ONS. Interest on government debt hit £8.8bn, the highest August figure since records began in 1997, adding pressure ahead of the October Budget.
